Man held in gasoline attack on woman in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police say a man has been taken into custody after dousing a woman with gasoline and trying to set her on fire.
A police statement says the incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Monday on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay.
According to the account, the 45-year-old man threatened to commit suicide by dousing himself with gasoline but then grabbed the 46-year-old woman by the wrist, threw the gasoline on her and tried to ignite it with a lighter.
Police say the woman escaped the man's grip, ran away and called for help. Police searched Fiesta Island for an hour before finding the man, who was hospitalized for evaluation.
The man and woman are described as acquaintances, with no relationship between them. Their identities were not released.
