Newburyport mom, grandmother released from custody
Sep. 29, 2015
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (AP) — The Newburyport mother and grandmother charged with allowing their 7-year-old girl to live in squalor have been released after pleading to sufficient facts and sentenced to time served.
The Newburyport Daily News (http://bit.ly/1OEBFur ) reports that a judge on Tuesday found 32-year-old Kristen and 54-year-old Debra Paquette guilty of child endangerment charges, and gave them each 18 months in jail, with all but 33 days suspended for two years of probation. They were released because they have already served 33 days.
Warrants were issued for the women after they failed to show for arraignment last month. They were charged after Kristen Paquette's 7-year-old daughter was found living in what authorities described as a vermin-infested, trash-strewn home. They were tracked to New York City.
The girl remains in Department of Children and Families custody.
