Greeting Card Giant Acquiring British Company Andrew Brownsword

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Hallmark Cards Inc. said Tuesday it will acquire the British greeting card company Andrew Brownsword Group.
Terms were not disclosed.
The British company, based in Bath, was founded in 1971 by Andrew Brownsword, who will assume overall responsibility for Hallmark's operations in the United Kingdom.
Brownsword's company designs and publishes cards and related gifts under the Andrew Brownsword name as well as that of Gordon Fraser, a line it acquired in 1989.
Privately owned Hallmark, founded in 1910 by Joyce Hall, is the world's leading greeting card manufacturer, with worldwide sales of $3.2 billion last year. It publishes cards in 12 languages and distributes them in more than 100 countries.
In the United Kingdom, Hallmark products are sold not only under the Hallmark name but also that of Sharpe's Classic, acquired in 1984, and Valentines of Dundee, acquired in 1980.
