WASHINGTON (AP) _ Jaime Moreno scored twice and Roy Lassiter added a goal as D.C. United defeated the Miami Fusion 3-1 Thursday night.

D.C. (14-5) dominated the Major League Soccer game, out-shooting the Fusion 28-7. Moreno scored goals in the 40th and 55th minutes.

The Fusion (6-11) played a man down the entire second half after Diego Serna was ejected with a red card in the 43rd minute.

Miami did make it interesting with a goal by David Vaudreuil in the 73rd minute. It was Miami's only shot on goal in the contest.

United, which hit the crossbar twice and had several more near misses, put things away with Lassiter's score in the 76th minute.

D.C. improved to 9-1 at RFK Stadium this season.

The United defense, which had given up 10 goals in the past three games, was bolstered by the return of U.S. national team defenders Eddie Pope and Jeff Agoos.

D.C. keeper Scott Garlick has four shutouts this season, two coming against the expansion Fusion.

While Colombia, like the United States, was knocked out of the first round of the World Cup, Miami did not have the services of playmaker Carlos Valderrama on Thursday. The Colombian star is expected to return to the Fusion in time for a July 8 U.S. Open Cup game against the Orlando Nighthawks.
