Greenville County staffers spent $1,400 on Charlotte trip

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Records show three employees of a South Carolina county spent more than $1,400 on a March trip to Charlotte that the new sheriff wanted and organized.
The Greenville News reports the money went for lodging and valet parking by Greenville County Administrator Joe Kernell, his deputy and an assistant.
Greenville Sheriff Will Lewis's office has refused to produce the names and travel records of his employees also on the trip.
A former employee has accused Lewis in a lawsuit of sexual assault while the two were staying at the same Charlotte hotel during a March business trip. Lewis has admitted he had a "consensual encounter" with his former subordinate.
Her lawsuit and its details led Gov. Henry McMaster and Lt. Gov. Kevin Bryant to call for Lewis' resignation.
