IN THE NEWS: AT&T TAKEOVER OF TIME WARNER APPROVED
WASHINGTON (AP) — Now that AT&T's proposed takeover of Time Warner has been signed off by the courts, it's time to take a cold hard look at how the entertainment landscape may change because of the move. The ruling to let the takeover happen — despite Justice Department opposition — could open the way for a number of other corporate marriages. Expect to see major cable, satellite and phone companies fattening their portfolios with purchases of entertainment conglomerates to compete against internet rivals like Amazon and Google. It will also be interesting to see how the mergers will play out with the official end of net neutrality — the Obama-era rules that barred internet service providers from playing favorites when it comes to distributing material.

IN THE NEWS: TAX ON AMAZON, OTHER COMPANIES, REPEALED
SEATTLE (AP) — A tax on large companies such as Amazon meant to fight a growing homelessness crisis has been rolled back. The decision came during a wild Seattle City Council meeting that featured cheering, jeering and booing — with the cries from the audience often drowning out city leaders. Despite the raucous atmosphere, the vote went 7-2 to repeal the tax package. The vote showed Amazon's ability to aggressively push back on government taxes, especially in its affluent hometown where it's the largest employer with more than 45,000 workers.
ON THE WEB: UBER DRIVER LOSES LICENSE FOR BOOTING TWO KISSING WOMEN
CYBERSPACE (AP) — An Uber driver who booted two kissing women out of his car had his livery license suspended. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission says the actions of Uber driver Ahmad El Boutari were "ridiculous." The driver threw the women out of his car over the weekend after they engaged in what they say was a "peck" on the lips. The driver told the women for them to kiss in an Uber was "illegal" — and "disrespectful."
