DALLAS (AP) _ Anthony Mason and Glen Rice each scored 29 points, Matt Geiger made a key block with nine seconds left and Charlotte rallied from a 15-point second-quarter deficit to beat Dallas 94-92 Saturday night.

Dallas got within 94-92 with one minute left on Shawn Bradley's 15-footer and the Mavericks were in position to tie when Michael Finley worked inside for a layup attempt in the closing seconds.

But Geiger blocked the shot and then was fouled, although he missed both free throw attempts with 1.7 seconds remaining.

Dallas grabbed the rebound and the Mavs were able to get off a desperation shot at the buzzer, but Erick Strickland's fallaway 3-pointer was well off the mark and the Mavericks lost for the 22nd time in their last 24 games.

Trailing by three points, Charlotte went on a 14-6 run in the third quarter to take a 75-68 lead entering the final period.

Mason scored Charlotte's first six points of the fourth quarter and the Hornets expanded their lead to 90-79 with 5:31 left on Geiger's layup.

Finley's two free throws with 2:07 remaining pulled the Mavericks within 92-90. But Mason grabbed two offensive rebounds on the Hornets' next possession, leading to Rice's 20-footer for a 94-90 advantage with 1:10 left.

The Hornets are still without center Vlade Divac and guards Dell Curry and Bobby Phills, all on the injured list.

Finley scored 24 points and Bradley added 23 for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks were ahead by as many as 15 in the second quarter and led at halftime, 56-48, behind Finley's 16 points. Rice's 17 first-half points kept the Hornets close.
