Sixth Person Arrested In Smuggling Probe
Jul. 17, 1985
SAN DIEGO (AP) _ A sixth person has been charged as part of a group prosecutors say stole weapons and military parts by entering a computer system and smuggling them to Iran disguised as medical supplies or auto parts.
Julie Roque Agustin, 46, the wife of Franklin Agustin, 47, one of the five men arrested Friday, appeared Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Roger McKee and was ordered held without bond pending further court proceedings.
Mrs. Agustin, arrested Tuesday at the couple's San Diego home, was charged with violating weapons export control laws, interstate transportation of stolen property and conspiracy, the FBI said.
The United States banned the export of military supplies to Iran six years ago after religious fundamentalists ousted the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
