McGwire hit a two-run homer off left-hander Tony Saunders in the third inning of the St. Louis Cardinals' game against the Florida Marlins. It landed about 10 rows into the upper deck in left-center field at Pro Player Stadium.
The homer tied McGwire with Ken Griffey Jr. and Tino Martinez for the major-league lead.
While playing for the Oakland Athletics, McGwire hit the longest homer in the major leagues this season _ a 538-footer against Randy Johnson at Seattle on June 24.

Colorado's Andres Galarraga hit the only other homer this season to travel at least 500 feet. His drive at Miami in May was estimated at 529 feet. It landed one section to left of McGwire's homer but 15 rows higher.
