MANKATO, Minn. (AP) _ Joe Smith had 13 points and four rebounds in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 105-100 exhibition victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
Smith finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds in the game played at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
The Bucks had a chance to win at the end of regulation. Jason Caffey made two free throws with 10.2 seconds remaining to make it 95-92, but Will Avery's 25-foot jump shot tied the game with 2.4 seconds to go.
Caffey missed an uncontested 18-foot shot at the buzzer.
In overtime, Smith's three-point play put the Timberwolves ahead for good, 98-95. Rasho Nesterovic had two baskets, and Wally Szczerbiak hit two free throws.
Smith ended the scoring with a free throw before fouling out with 52.8 seconds to play.
Minnesota's Kevin Garnett had 23 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks despite not playing most of the fourth quarter and the entire overtime. Szczerbiak had 24 points.
Ray Allen and Michael Redd paced the Bucks with 20 points apiece; Allen hit four 3-pointers, and Redd made three. Tim Thomas added 19 points, making three 3-pointers.
The Bucks were 10-of-23 on 3-point shooting, while the Wolves were 3-of-7. Milwaukee forward Glenn Robinson (sore ankles) and center Ervin Johnson (sprained left shoulder, sprained left ankle) did not dress. Point guard Sam Cassell and power forward Scott Williams were in uniform but did not play.
