Mrs. Mississippi Named New Mrs. America

RENO, Nev. (AP) _ Donna Russell, a 31-year-old model from Brandon, Miss., was crowned Mrs. America 1985 in Monday night's finals for the country's only beauty competition for married women.
Mrs. Mississippi, who topped representatives from every state, will represent the United States in the second anual Mrs. Woman of the World pageant in Honolulu in September.
First runnerup in the ninth annual Mrs. America pageant was Dwan Smith- Fortier, 41, of Lakeview Terrace, Calif. Second runnerup was Dianne Rooker, 38, of Pelham, Ala.
Rounding out the five finalists were Jan McGowan of Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, and Carmen Hughes, 30, of Walker, La.
The new Mrs. America has been married nine years and has two children.
Competitors in the pageant ranged in age from 23 to 44 and were judged on beauty, poise and personality and their appearance in swimsuit and evening gown competition.
