Man Charged With Sexual Molestation of Corpses at Funeral Home
Feb. 04, 1992
UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (AP) _ A 20-year-old man has been charged with sexual molestation of two corpses at a funeral home, where a message left on a bulletin board read: ''The devil made me do it,'' authorities said.
A fingerprint match led to the arrest of Theodore Van McWhorter of Union Springs in the 2-year-old crime, Police Chief E. L. Love said.
Disturbed corpses were discovered Jan. 13, 1990, at the Carter Funeral Home in Union Springs, in southern Alabama about 50 miles southeast of Montgomery, by owner Willie Carter.
In addition to the bulletin board message, there was graffiti on the walls, authorities said.
McWhorter, who was on parole from a sentence for receiving stolen property, was charged last Thursday with burglary and two counts of abuse of a corpse, the chief said. Bond was set at $9,000.
McWhorter denies any involvement in the crime, said his court-appointed attorney, Thomas Paulk.
