WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Authorities in Delaware say a 15-year-old boy with three outstanding arrest warrants was found with a 9 mm handgun in his waistband.

Wilmington police spokeswoman Sgt. Stephanie Castellani tells news outlets Officer Molly McNulty spotted the boy sitting on the steps of a home Saturday. Because of previous interactions, she knew he was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Castellani says the boy obliged when McNulty called him over, and she took him into custody. While patting him down, McNulty found the gun in his front waistband. Castellani says McNulty took the gun without incident.

It's unclear whether the firearm was loaded. The boy has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. The charges in the outstanding warrants weren't reported.
