SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — South Burlington's school board has voted to unanimously impose terms and working conditions on city teachers after the previous contract expired earlier this summer.

Board Chairwoman Elizabeth Fitzgerald says the board feels it is time to reach a conclusion in the negotiation process since it has been going on for a year. The Burlington Free Press reports (http://bfpne.ws/2wIVnmn ) teachers can either accept the imposed terms or go on strike.

Fitzgerald says the board is ready to meet and begin negotiating the fiscal 2019 contract as soon as possible.

The first time the board imposed employment terms was in February 2011. That conflict over pay structure ended without a strike.
