GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ The body of a woman who may have been dead for two years was found Monday on a sofa, fully clothed, at the home of a daughter, police said.

The woman, identified as Clara Peters Whiting, would be 80 if alive, said Lt. Sadie Darnell. An autopsy will be performed to determine a time and cause of death, Darnell said, adding that foul play was not suspected.

A son, identified as Charles Whiting of Melrose, who had been trying to see his mother for several weeks, discovered the body, said Darnell.

The daughter, Myra Joyce Vickers, did not tell authorities why she had left her mother's body in the home, but said she died about two years ago, Darnell said.

''She really didn't know what to do,'' Darnell said, adding that the daughter is now being cared for by family members.

Darnell said police have not decided whether to file charges against Ms. Vickers for not reporting the death.
