ATLANTA (AP) _ Viviana Ballabio and Mara Fullin each scored 15 points and Italy rallied in the second half with 3-point shooting to beat Canada 59-54 Tuesday in the women's basketball preliminaries.
Italy (2-0) shot just 33 percent in falling behind 34-24 at halftime and was down 36-24 before hitting six 3-pointers in seven attempts to get back into the game.
Nicoletta Caselin and Valentina Gardellin hit consecutive 3-pointers to cap a 10-0 run that drew the Italians to within a point and Ballabio hit two 3s to tie the score at 48 with 4:55 left.
Then, with Canada (0-2) leading 52-48, Fullin made a 3-pointer and sank two free throws to put Italy ahead to stay at 53-52 with 3:08 remaining.
Italy finished 8-for-13 from 3-point range after going 2-for-6 in the first half.
The Italians stopped Canada's Beverly Smith and Shawna Molcak after both had big first halves. Each scored just two points in the second half, Smith finishing with 13 and Molcak 12.
