Sheriff Spots Fugitive On TV Miniseries
May. 07, 1986
CENTRAL CITY, Colo. (AP) _ Patrick Joseph Burke eluded federal marshals for five years. Then he made the mistake of taking a bit part in a nationally televised miniseries.
County Sheriff Rosetta Anderle said she was watching the CBS miniseries ''Dream West,'' based on the life of explorer John Charles Fremont, when she matched a face on the TV screen with one on a wanted poster she had been given.
Burke was arrested Friday at work on the main street of this historic gold mining town, where the series was filmed in October.
Burke, 38, had been on five years' probation from federal court in Denver for distribution of cocaine when he disappeared in 1981. The wanted files had been sent to all Colorado sheriffs by the U.S. marshal's office in Denver.
