SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts high school student once accused of raping a teammate with a broomstick at a sports camp in 2013 has filed a federal lawsuit against his suburban Boston hometown.
The Boston Globe reports (http://bit.ly/1MztLD0 ) 19-year-old Galileo Mondol is seeking $1 million in his suit filed Friday against the city of Somerville, alleging a host of officials — including Mayor Joseph Curtatone — engaged in a witch hunt to have him charged with the crime.
Prosecutors said Mondol took part in the hazing ritual as a member of the Somerville High School soccer team, but the case was quietly dropped in April.
Mondol routinely denied the accusations.
The suit claims the mayor and school district officials knew about the camp's history of hazing.
A spokeswoman for Curtatone declined to comment.
