GRAMBLING, La. (AP) _ Claude Coleman had 31 points and James Hannah 24 to lead Grambling State to a 96-92 victory and hand Prairie View its 11th defeat in as many Southland Conference games.
Grambling improved to 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the conference; Prairie View fell to 4-19.
Coleman had 17 points in the first 8:30, and led as much as 52-34 on the way to the 54-42 halftime score.
However, David Beck got one of his two baskets to pull the Panthers back in front at 65-64. After a shoving match for which Beck and Hannah were given technical fouls, Prairie View pulled ahead 72-65.
Grambling tied the game again at 72 with 7:34 left, then moved ahead again, leading 93-83 with 1:23 remaining. However, Prairie View pulled to within two, 94-92, on a layup by Tammaron Sharpe before Hannah hit a pair of free throws for the final margin.
Terrance Jones added 19 for Grambling, and Michael Tardy 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Prairie View was led by Rueben Hoyle's 19 points. Sharpe and Derick Malone added 16 each, King Whetstone 13, and William Evans 10.
