CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) _ Darren Brooks scored 20 points and Southern Illinois shot 63 percent in the second half to pull away and beat Colorado State 83-71 Wednesday night.

Kent Williams and Jermaine Dearman added 14 points each and Stetson Hairston and Sylvester Willis had 13 each for the Salukis (2-0).

Colorado State's Rams (4-1) led 35-34 at the half after shooting 54 percent in the opening 20 minutes but couldn't keep up the hot shooting in the second half. Ronnie Clark scored 21 points and Matt Nelson added 13 for Colorado State.

Southern managed to make only 13 of its 36 first-half field goal attempts but found the range on 20-of-32 in the second half.
