Bob Lesh now plans to keep his seat on the Scranton School Board, less than a week after he resigned by text message sent to board secretary Virginia Orr and Superintendent Alexis Kirijan, Ed.D.
Lesh, 61, has been on and off the board for about 20 years, including a stint as president. He was first elected in 1997. In 2013, he was defeated for a board seat but re-elected in 2015. Lesh is the bus route manager for the County of Lackawanna Transit System.
Lesh cited his family’s disappointment at his resignation as a reason for changing his mind.
“They didn’t give up on me,” he said. “I’m not going to give up on them.”
At Monday’s board transportation committee meeting — which Lesh heads — Directors Tom Schuster and Paige Gebhardt Cognetti questioned why he did not attend.
That led Orr and Kirijan to announce that Lesh sent them a text saying he resigned from the board.
Lesh rescinded his resignation in a message to Orr on Friday.
District Solicitor John Minora said he reached out to Lesh after Monday’s meeting so he could submit a written letter of resignation. As a general rule, the board must accept a resignation or move to replace the resigning director for it to become official, Minora said.
Lesh never submitted one. Instead, he told The Times-Tribune on Friday that he is staying on the school board.
