CHESTERTON, Ind. (AP) — A coroner says a northwestern Indiana mobile home fire killed an elderly man and his adult son.
Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris says 86-year-old Sam Wolford and 53-year-old Scott Wolford both died of asphyxiation from either smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Assistant Chief Mike Wineland of the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department told The (Northwest Indiana) Times that when the first firefighting unit arrived on the scene Sunday afternoon at Forest Oaks Mobile Home Community near Chesterton, about half of the Wolfords' mobile home was engulfed in flames.
The fire department says the men were trying to exit a rear door of the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
