2-Sport Star Makes Baseball Debut
Apr. 25, 2000
DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) _ University of Michigan quarterback and New York Yankees third base prospect Drew Henson made his 2000 baseball debut Tuesday, going 0-for-3 in an extended spring training game.
Henson, who reported to the Yankees' Florida player development center Saturday after completing final exams, hit a hard one-hopper to shortstop and flied out to left and deep center field.
``It feels good to be back,'' Henson said. ``It's tough to be up north knowing baseball season has started and all I can do is watch it on TV. I got the itch a few weeks ago, and it's nice to come down here and get some at-bats.''
Henson is expected to join the Yankees' Double-A Norwich team during the first week in May. He will return to Michigan in early August to prepare for the start of football practice on Aug. 10.
