TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (AP) _ A ricocheting bullet hit a Marine in the face and killed him during a training exercise, the Marine Corps said Thursday.
The Marine was identified only as a member of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, said Cpl. Rich Hancock, a spokesman for the Air Ground Combat Center in the Southern California desert.
The Marine was participating in the live-fire exercise Wednesday night when a .50-caliber round ricocheted and struck him, Hancock said.
The Marine died later at the base hospital.
The death was under investigation, said Hancock, who did not have any other details.
