NIMES, France (AP) _ The United States won the bronze medal in women's team foil on the final day of the World Fencing Championships on Thursday.
The team of Ann Marsh, Erinn Smart and Felicia and Iris Zimmermann beat Germany 45-43 to avenge a loss at last year's Olympics and claim the first medal for a U.S. women's foil team.
The Americans earlier defeated Romania and Ukraine before losing to Russia in the semifinals. Russia met Italy for the gold medal.
``All of us in the U.S. are especially proud of this accomplishment,'' said U.S. Fencing executive director Michael Massik. ``This is another instance demonstrating that the U.S. is an international fencing force to be reckoned with.''
