NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island woman is among the people seriously injured in the bombings at the Boston Marathon.
WJAR-TV (http://bit.ly/YU0ute ) reports that Heather Abbott of Newport is being treated at a Boston hospital for a serious injury to her lower leg.
Friend Jason Geremia (jer-eh-MY'-uh) says they were headed into a bar when the blast went off. He said everyone ran out the back, but once he got there, he realized Abbott was no longer with him.
He turned and saw a bouncer carrying her down the stairs. When he told the man she was his best friend and to give her to him, the bouncer pointed out her serious leg injury.
Geremia says he has been with her at the hospital and it has been "very, very hard to see her."
