PARIS (AP) _ Philippe Mitterrand, younger brother of President Francois Mitterrand, died Thursday after a long illness, the presidential palace said.

The 70-year-old Mitterrand was a farmer and former mayor of St. Severin, a small town about 250 miles southwest of Paris. He was the youngest of seven children in the Mitterrand family.

No details were released on the cause of death or funeral arrangements.
