MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) _ A Sandinista member of the National Assembly was shot to death this week, the newspaper Barricada reported today.
The paper of the governing Sandinista National Liberation Front said lawmaker Jose Filemon Hernandez Munoz, 51, was shot four times Tuesday night in a residential area of Managua.
Police were holding five people for questioning in the case, the newspaper said. There was no explanation of why the shooting was not reported earlier.
Barricada said police ruled out robbery as a motive because the assemblyman's money, watch, and briefcase, which contained a Soviet-made Makarov pistol, were found on or next to his body.
