VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ W.P. Kinsella, whose novel ``Shoeless Joe'' was the basis for the movie ``Field of Dreams,'' says in a lawsuit that injuries from a car accident damaged his writing career.

Kinsella said he was struck by a car backing out of a driveway as he walked on a sidewalk.

He said he suffered head, knee, back and dental injuries, a loss of taste, smell and appetite, and has concentration difficulties, depression, dizziness and headaches.

Kinsella is suing driver Rupert Sasseville and the owners of the vehicle, Edith Sasseville and Ford Credit Canada Ltd., for unspecified damages. The defendants deny negligence and blame Kinsella for not watching closely while he was walking.
