ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) _ Princeton coach Pete Carril got his 500th career victory Friday night with a 64-54 win over Cornell.
Carril, 64, has a 500-265 record in 29 seasons, all but one of them at Princeton. He is the 16th active coach and 40th overall to join the 500-win club.
Chris Doyal and Rick Hielscher scored 17 points apiece for the Tigers (13-9, 7-3 Ivy League). Cornell, which shot 28 percent from the field in the first half, was led by Troy Torbert and DeShawn Standard with 12 points each.
Cornell closed to 53-48 on four straight free throws by Bo Buettenback, but Princeton then scored nine consecutive points to make it 62-48 with 1:06 remaining.
Princeton opened a 15-6 lead in the first half on two free throws by Doyal, but Cornell (9-14, 4-7) went on an 11-2 run to tie it at 17 on a layup by Eddie Samuel.
