DAVIE, Fla. (AP) _ The Miami Dolphins signed nine-year pro Michael Timpson to a one-year contract Monday to bolster their wide receiver corps.

Timpson has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears and New England Patriots. Last year, he caught 42 passes for 484 yards and two touchdowns with the Eagles. He started 10 games.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder had his best season for the Patriots in 1994 when he caught 74 passes for 941 yards.

The Dolphins were looking for receiver help after third-round draft pick Larry Shannon sustained a knee injury on the first day of training camp last week.

Miami also signed Terry Guess, a receiver who played five games for New Orleans in 1996, to a one-year contract. The Orangeburg, S.C., native played for Hamilton of the Canadian Football League last season.

To make room on the roster, Miami waived linebacker Selvesta Miller.
