ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ A Greek ferry carrying 511 passengers and crew sank after hitting a reef near the Aegean Sea island of Paros, coast guard officials said. At least 28 people on board were killed and about 50 were unaccounted for.
Coast guard chief Andreas Sirigos said 28 people were confirmed dead after the ferry boat Express Samina sank after hitting a reef late Tuesday in rough seas about two miles off the popular resort island. A port official also suffered a heart attack and died after hearing news of the sinking, the coast guard said.
Dozens of fishing boats and other vessels rushed to the scene and helped in the evacuation.
