MADISON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi woman says her husband was unarmed when he was shot to death by a sheriff's deputy.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe into what happened Friday night in Madison County.
Amanda Renfroe tells WLBT-TV that her 36-year-old husband, Michael Renfroe of Jackson, dropped a stick out his truck window when they were together. She says he turned the truck around and got out to retrieve the stick, and a deputy pulled behind them without blue lights flashing.
Amanda Renfroe says her husband kept walking after the deputy told him to stop, and then the deputy shot him multiple times.
Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker tells the Clarion Ledger that Michael Renfroe attacked the deputy.
Coroner Alex Breeland says Michael Renfroe died of gunshot wounds.
