WINCHESTER, Va. (AP) — An 82-year-old man is facing charges including assaulting a police officer after authorities say a traffic stop escalated into racial slurs and an officer getting kicked in the thigh.
The Winchester Star reports a deputy with the Winchester City Sheriff's Office pulled over Raymond Crawford of Winchester Thursday afternoon after he was following her vehicle too closely.
Sheriff Les Taylor said his deputy began to question Crawford, but he said he wanted to speak to a male officer.
Winchester police arrived, and authorities say Crawford argued with officers and used a racial slur against the deputy who pulled him over.
Police say Crawford then kicked and punched an officer before being handcuffed.
Crawford is charged with assault and battery of a police officer, obstruction of justice and following too closely.
