MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) _ Fred's Inc. (FRED) on Thursday reported a loss of $32.3 million in its fiscal second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Memphis, Tennessee-based company said it had a loss of 88 cents. Losses, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, were 62 cents per share.

The discount retailer posted revenue of $419.7 million in the period.

The company's shares closed at $2.66. A year ago, they were trading at $6.85.
