In this photo by Ahn Young-joon, parents light candles at the Jogye Temple in Seoul, South Korea, in hopes their children will succeed on the Scholastic Aptitude Test. About 640,000 high school students and graduates in South Korea took the examination Thursday, with their parents visiting temples to pray and teachers and schoolmates wishing them well. The university entrance exam is one of the most important tests for many South Korean students since graduating from prominent universities can often promise better jobs, social status and marriage prospects under Confucian principles that emphasize good education.
