Lions Reportedly Sign QB Case
Jun. 11, 2000
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) _ The Detroit Lions have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with quarterback Stoney Case.
According to an item on ESPN's web site, the former Baltimore Ravens quarterback's deal with Detroit is worth $465,000, including a $25,000 signing bonus.
Lions spokesman Matt Barnhart acknowledged that Case was ``one of the guys we're targeting'' in the wake of the leg injury to starter Charlie Batch that will keep him sidelined for three months.
``We're in negotiations and have been talking to him, but we haven't got anything done yet,'' Barnhart said. Case, 27, could be signed early next week, the spokesman said.
A message left Saturday with Case's agent, Gary Wichard, was not immediately returned.
Coach Bobby Ross wants another quarterback signed by Tuesday to share the workload with Mike Tomczak and Steve Stenstrom during the last three voluntary workouts and in training camp, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday.
