Jul. 15, 2017
LEHIGHTON, Pa. (AP) — A 9-year-old girl has died in a Pennsylvania house fire that also hospitalized her father and brother.
The cause of the fire in Mahoning Township, Carbon County, remained under investigation Saturday. The fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and extinguished about 4 a.m., but not before destroying the residence about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) south of Scranton.
Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller says the girl died of asphyxiation before crews could pull her from the house. Her father and brother were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital's Cedar Crest campus. Authorities didn't immediately release the names of the victims.
Miller says the girl's mother accompanied her husband and son to the hospital and didn't appear to be injured.
The coroner couldn't immediately be reached for additional information.
