PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) _ Melody Johnson's lay-in with 5.7 seconds remaining helped No. 23 Arizona State beat Washington State 74-72 Thursday night.

Johnson finished with 19 points for the Sun Devils (16-6, 8-2 Pac-10), who have won seven straight games. Betsy Boardman and Amanda Levens added 18 points apiece.

Katie Nyseth led the Cougars (8-12, 3-7) with 19 points, Sarah Barrett added 17 and Brittney Hawks had 10.

The Sun Devils led 72-71 when Johnson hit her go-ahead bucket. Boardman added a free throw for the final margin.
