AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A county prosecutor in Ohio wants a special prosecutor and investigator appointed to oversee a criminal investigation of a former police chief.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said in a statement Wednesday that she's asked the prosecutor in neighboring Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County to name a special prosecutor and investigators for a "pending criminal matter" concerning former Akron Police Chief James Nice. Nice resigned Sunday.

Walsh says she wants to eliminate concerns about conflicts or bias.

Akron's mayor said Monday he was told there's evidence of misconduct by Nice related to an investigation of Nice's nephew and evidence Nice had inappropriate contact with a city employee and made derogatory comments about police officials.

Nice's attorney has said the ex-chief regrets any inappropriate comments or behavior, but denies doing anything criminal.
