Wife of Chinese leader gets gift made in China

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) _ If Chinese President Jiang Zemin's wife looked just right in the straw hat she was given during her visit to Colonial Williamsburg, there was a reason.
The gift was made in China.
The hat that Colonial Williamsburg presented Tuesday to Wang Yeping was ``a Chinese import _ as it would have been in the 18th century,'' Brett McMichael, assistant product manager for the historic area's stores, said Wednesday.
The three-cornered colonial hat given to the Chinese president was made a little closer to home _ in Pennsylvania.
Both hats were decorated by local craftsmen, who put silk ribbons and rosettes on the straw hat and ribbon, gold braid and a brass button on the tricorn, McMichael said.
Jiang and his wife are on a tour of the United States. Jiang and President Clinton met Wednesday in Washington for a summit.
