Dec. 14, 2000
COVENTRY, England (AP) _ British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Thursday he had no doubt Britain's relationship with America would flourish under President-elect Bush and offered his country's ``solid support, our unwavering friendship, now and in the future.''
During his introduction of President Clinton at the University of Warwick, Blair told the crowd that he had just spoken to Bush by phone ``to congratulate him and to underline our commitment to that unique relationship between our two countries. ... I've absolutely no doubt either that it will flourish still further under the Bush presidency.''
Blair called Bush ``a man who shares our values, who wants Europe and America to stand side by side in the world. I know that he will be a friend of Britain and a friend of Europe, a friend of free trade, of new technology and of solid defense.''
``The world needs a strong America and America is strong today, and I'm sure under President-elect Bush it will continue to be so,'' he said.
