Police charge man with murder in death near homeless shelter
Jul. 06, 2018
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine's largest city say they have charged a 19-year-old man with a murder stemming from the death of a man on a street corner last month.
Police charged Tyrese Collins with shooting 45-year-old Jack Wilson near the Oxford Street shelter in the Portland's Bayside neighborhood. They say they're still trying to establish a motive.
Wilson died from his injuries on the night of July 3 at Maine Medical Center.
The Portland Press Herald reports Collins was already in custody at Cumberland County Jail when he was charged with murder. He was charged earlier in the year with a stabbing.
Police say Collins will likely appear in court for arraignment on July 9. They say they don't know whether he's represented by an attorney at this time.
This story has been corrected to say Collins is 19, not 18.
