Jan. 07, 2014
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The Springfield Police Department is looking for new cadets, a paid job that could lead to a position as a full-time officer.
People between the ages of 17 and 23 interested in a cadet position can register to take the exam at the police clerk's office by Jan. 16.
The exam will be administered Jan. 25 at the High School of Science and Technology in Springfield.
The cadet job is a full-time, paid, administrative position with a starting hourly salary of $12. Cadets typically perform clerical work and other duties at police headquarters.
The job, along with a criminal justice degree and a passing grade on the state civil service exam, is considered an inside track to an officer's job.
