Najera Suspended for Bumping Referee
Feb. 27, 2003
NEW YORK (AP) _ Dallas forward Eduardo Najera was suspended for one game by the NBA on Wednesday for bumping a referee during the Mavericks' loss to Orlando.
Najera was ejected for making contact with official David Jones after Orlando's Tracy McGrady wasn't called for losing the ball out of bounds during the second quarter Tuesday night.
``I accidentally hit him, and it was a good call to eject me,'' Najera said. ``I just really snapped.''
In announcing the suspension, NBA vice president Stu Jackson said the contact was intentional.
Najera will miss the Mavericks' game against Sacramento on Thursday night.
Najera has averaged 7.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in 24 games, including four starts.
