LOS ANGELES (AP) — The World Series is tied at a game apiece after George Springer slammed a two-run homer in the 11th inning to send the Houston Astros to a 7-6 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The Astros homered four times in their final three at-bats as Marwin Gonzalez went deep to tie it in the ninth before Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) and Carlos Correa belted consecutive solo shots in the 10th. Yasiel Puig (YAH'-see-ul pweg) homered in the 10th inning but ended the game by striking out after Charlie Culberson hit a solo shot to make it a one-run game.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Dwight Freeney's retirement from football is on hold after the three-time All Pro signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Freeney had given himself one more week before deciding the rest of the season would likely be spent on the golf course. Seattle needed a defensive end after Cliff Avril was placed on injured reserve due to a neck injury.
UNDATED (AP) — Mike Nugent is the Cowboys' new kicker while Dan Bailey recovers from a strained right groin suffered in last week's 40-10 rout of the 49ers. Nugent played the previous seven seasons with the Bengals before spending training camp with the Giants over the summer. Also in the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed linebacker Telvin Smith to a four-year contract extension.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera says Luke Kuechly (KEEK'-lee) is on pace to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after practicing in full pads yesterday. The league's 2013 Defensive Player of the Year participated in the full practice but hasn't been cleared from the concussion protocol. Keuchely suffered his third concussion in three seasons during an Oct. 12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Markelle Fultz sat out last night's 105-104 loss to Houston and will miss two more with soreness in his right shoulder. The No. 1 pick in this year's draft has had shoulder issues that have greatly affected his shooting so far this season. He has missed 18 of his 27 field-goal attempts and is just 6-for-12 from the line.
