LONDON (AP) — Roger Federer has advanced to a record-extending 16th Wimbledon quarterfinal with a victory over Adrian Mannarino of France. And Rafael Nadal has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time since 2011. The top-ranked Spaniard beat Jiri Vesely on Centre Court to return to the last eight for the first time since he was runner-up to Novak Djokovic in 2011. Also today, Kevin Anderson advanced to his first Wimbledon quarterfinal after edging Gael Monfils.
LONDON (AP) — Serena Williams is back in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the 13th time after beating Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina. And the last of the women's top-10 seeds was knocked out today, as Kiki Bertens followed up her win over Venus Williams by beating No. 7 Karolina Pliskova. In other action, Jelena Ostapenko advanced to a second consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal. Dominika Cibulkova also advanced.
BOSTON (AP) — After winning six straight, the Boston Red Sox return home for a seven-game homestand leading into the All-Star break, beginning with a series against the Rangers. Eduardo Rodriguez starts the opener for Boston, and Mike Minor goes for Texas.
UNDATED (AP) — Both teams from New York are playing a single-admission doubleheader today to make up a previous postponement. Aaron Judge and the Yankees are in Baltimore to face the Orioles, who have lost six in a row and own the worst record in the majors. The struggling Mets, shut out in their past two games by Tampa Bay, are hosting the first-place Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. Philadelphia ace Aaron Nola tries to become the National League's first 12-game winner — and match his career high for victories — when he starts the nightcap against the Mets.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw pitches tonight for the Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego. In 32 career starts against the Padres, he is 17-6 with a 1.94 ERA.
