OXFORD, Miss. (AP) _ University of Mississippi junior basketball guard Andre Laird was injured Monday in a one-car accident just north of Abbeville on Mississippi Highway 7, according to the Ole Miss sports information office.

Laird suffered a broken left foot and underwent surgery Monday morning, asccording to Joey Howard, a spokesman for the athletic department.

According to trainer Leroy Mullins, it is uncertain how long Laird will be in the Oxford-Lafayette County hospital and his status for the 1985-86 season is ''guarded.''

A native of Memphis, Laird was returning to the Oxford campus when the accident occurred. Laird averaged 3.8 points in 27 games last season and was a starter part of the season.

Ole Miss Coach Lee Hunt was on a recruiting trip Monday and unavailable for comment.
