FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ A soccer fan has died of head injuries suffered when he fell while scaling a metal barrier erected by police to separate rival supporters.
The 25-year-old man fell from a height of 23 feet during a match Tuesday in Darmstadt and died later in a hospital, police said Thursday.
The accident occurred during a match between Eintracht Frankfurt and the nearby regional division club Darmstadt.
Frankfurt fans rioted during the match and police erected the barriers to keep the rival supporters separated after the game.
With their team nearing relegation, Eintracht fans have become increasingly violent in recent weeks.
