GONZALES, La. (AP) _ A student on a rodeo scholarship at Southeastern Louisiana died after being trampled by the bull he was riding.

Brandon Buras died Friday night at a hospital hours after the rodeo near Baton Rouge.

The 22-year-old senior was unable to free himself from the rope he was holding on the bull, said Mary Lee Dixon, co-owner of the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, where the rodeo was held.

``The bull came out of the chute and made several jumps,'' she said. ``When Brandon's hand didn't release, he went under the bull. It stepped on him and walked all over him.''

Buras was president of the university's rodeo association.
